Go farm to table right in your own backyard

Vegetable gardens designed & built to withstand Colorado conditions

You can grow a garden in Colorado – and enjoy homegrown goodies on your table 12 months a year.

But conditions here in the Rockies are trickier than other locales.

common garden foes include:

Wild temperature swings

Freezes and sudden dips every month of the year

High-altitude sun

14 unrelenting hours of high-desert solar rays in withering, arid air

Heavy Soil

Basic, clay soil with little topsoil

Creatures & critters

Voles, rabbits, squirrels, deer, elk, and even bears all vying for your bounty

DIY gardening in Colorado often involves years of trial-and-error that looks like…

Building your own raised beds and figuring out the best size, placement, soil, spacing, and watering frequency for your space, on your own

Buying plants from the store or hiring a landscaper who don’t offer the knowledge or support you need

Spindly plants, minimal harvest and not a clue of what’s causing it

Not being able to spot issues like pests or disease early

Relying on Google to tell you when to plant, prune, and harvest

Unexpected hail, heat, or freezes that threaten all your hard work

Not enough time to plant and properly maintain your garden

Failed experiments that cost time, money, and joy

But when you hire Rocky Mountain garden experts like us you’ll have…

  • Organic, locally grown produce for every meal – share it with friends, family, and neighbors

  • A therapeutic sanctuary where you can slow down and reconnect with nature

  • An attractive raised-bed garden that enhances your landscape and maximizes every square inch of space

  • Happier, healthier plants for more abundant and frequent harvests because your garden was designed with the elements in mind

  • A smaller carbon footprint with less reliance on plastic packaging and fossil fuels

  • Ongoing support, education, and maintenance so you can improve your gardening skills, catch pests and disease early, and keep your garden looking beautiful

Step 1: Request a consultation

We’ll stop by for a hour-long visit to learn about your goals, evaluate your space, determine the best site and size for your garden, and answer any burning questions you have. (And you’ll get some gardening tips, too!)

Step 2: We Design your dream garden

You’ll receive a 3D rendering of your garden design that maximizes every square inch of your available space. Need modifications? A round of revisions is included so it’s just right.

Step 3: We build your garden

We offer two installation plans. Most clients prefer the done-for-you installation so they can begin enjoying homegrown produce sooner.

Your investment includes

  • Initial garden consultation to discuss your goals and determine the optimal layout based on light, water access, and square footage

  • Custom design 3D rendering, so you can envision exactly what your new garden will look like before we even break ground (1 round of revisions included!)

  • Done-for-you installation estimate, including labor and eco-friendly materials (plus our 5 signature garden components of raised beds, trellises, pathways, covers, and water)

  • Plant installation of seasonally appropriate plants (plus additional phased seasonal planting, as needed)

  • Digital resource hub with training videos, checklists, and classes (like fall gardening tips, preserving, seed starting, gardening with kids)

Every garden is unique in size and requirements, but a typical Get a Garden investment is $135-$150 per square foot of usable growing space. And it's just $225 to get started with a Garden Design Consultation.

What are clients saying?

I wasn’t having much success by myself. I didn’t know what I needed, my plants were spindly, and I wasn't getting much harvest. I needed someone to tell me what to do because the seasons here are so different from Minnesota, where I lived before. If I know Lindsay’s coming, I don’t have to think about it—I just know it’s going to happen. She has the foresight and knowledge to suggest what needs to be done to get results. She’s also reliable, patient and friendly.

Sometimes I’ll think, ‘Do I really need Lindsay this year?’ And yes. Yes I do.”

Your gardening FAQs answered

How long does the design/installation/harvest process take?

It depends on the season when you inquire. For example, we may design your garden in the late fall and build and plant in the early spring. Other factors include weather, labor availability, and the complexity of your project. But the process takes approximately 1-2 weeks for the design, 1-3 days for the build, and another 3-4 weeks after planting for your first harvest.

I have a Black Thumb. Can I really grow a garden?

There’s no such thing as a “black thumb.” Gardening is a skill just like any other, which means anyone can learn! Plus, we’ll support you on your gardening journey and can visit your garden frequently to check in on you and your plants.

How much work is involved for me?

With our Garden Helper maintenance add-on, you’ll only need to spend 5-10 minutes a day checking your soil and watering, harvesting, and looking for early signs of problems like pests or disease. That’s about as long as it takes to fold a load of laundry. (But way more fun.)

We’ll take care of the more involved maintenance like pruning, cleaning up debris, and mulching each month. If you choose to maintain your own garden, plan to spend at least 1-2 hours a week caring for your garden (or more during the busy planting and harvest seasons).

Why do you use raised beds and trellises? Can't I just put my veggies in the ground?

Raised beds allow us to address so many of the challenges of mountain gardening. We fill them with a compost-soil blend which drains better, warms faster, and has more nutrients than planting in-ground in our thin, native soils.

The result is an extended harvesting season, fewer pests and invasive weeds that are common in our landscape, a garden that’s easier to tend (no hunching over or crawling!), and a beautiful outdoor space year-round.

How much will my garden cost?

Every garden is different, and the cost depends on the size and amount of materials required. A typical investment ranges between $125-150 per square foot of usable garden space, and we’ll help you maximize your investment by planning strategically and getting the most out of every square inch of your garden.

When we send you your design, you’ll also receive a ballpark estimate for the total cost that includes all labor and materials. Once your design is approved and finalized, you’ll receive a full estimate. A 50% retainer will secure your spot on our calendar.

Will you maintain my existing garden?

Because in the Rocky Mountain a proper set up is so important, Fourth Street Farm only provides routine maintenance to gardens we design or build.

Do you guarantee a productive garden?

We do! When you sign up for Full Garden Helper Support (12 visits per year), we guarantee a harvest per week during our growing season. 🥕🧄🥦
